If you are like Jack, you have brown paper bags of saved wine corks around the kitchen, in closets or out in the garage. All waiting for the day when you are going to make that coffee table top, kitchen notice board, or other great artistic expression. Well, here’s something useful you can do with those corks right now, and help some less fortunate people as well as the environment.
Like the wine bottle itself, natural corks are recyclable and are being turned into useful products—like shoes, flooring, playground equipment and more—by companies around the world.
7,500,000 + Corks Collected • 1,210 Trees Planted
And now you can pitch in, thanks to ReCORK by Amorim, a wine cork recycling program. Drop off your corks at a local partner, or set up your own recycling station at work, a neighborhood restaurant or community center. ReCORK will even pay the return shipping costs for packages of at least 15 pounds.
Once received, the corks are ground and shipped to SOLE, a footwear company that replaces some of the petroleum-based material in its shoes with this sustainable resource.
Just think, if you had a cork for every bottle of wine you’ve drank, you’d be able to help make a ton of shoes. If you don’t have collections around the house, it’s not too late to start!, Pop a cork and do some good.
