South Pacific Dispatch

by on June 15, 2010

Jack hadn’t heard from Indiana Jim for a while, but that was not unusual as dispatches can take some time to make their way up to the New World from the Antipodes. It wasn’t surprising, the other day, to get a large, multi-layer, oilskin envelope, intricately tied with strong hemp twine, and several types of sailors knots. Particularly impressive was the monkeys fist where you would usually see a bow made from ribbon. I know he left on his voyage with an original 1925 edition of George Biddlecomb’s The Art of Rigging, and have no doubt that he perfected his monkeys fist skills from that essential reference. For those who would like to try one for themselves, these instructions may help.

However, I digress, the important part of the dispatch was the contents. it seems he was pressed for a treat for the crew some time ago, and felt driven to chronicle it for the Gourmet Jack foodies.

Indiana Jim would like to acknowledge the Blokes Who Bake in New Zealand for this cracker recipe and their common sense tips on the use of a couple of cold frostys while baking.
