Jill recently journeyed north to New York City for a conference and returned with a recipe for Jack to recreate. Always up for the challenge, it turned out to be a great success as well as consummately simple to put together. It comes from the Astro Restaurant, 1361 Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave), New York City, (57th Street Subway). Myron Averhiou and Tom Aronis have been amusing and amazing Manhattan diners for 30 years. Like all good Manhattan food the Astro delivers. This item is listed as one of their breakfast specials and goes by the incredibly accurate name of The Total Greek Yogurt Experience – Jack calls it The Ultimate Greek Yogurt Experience.
Let’s do this Aegean style, pop on the baggy, pleated, vraka trousers you have been keeping for this occasion, a fresh white cotton shirt, mandatory red sash, red and black wool vest (blue and green should not be seen!), and a tasteful red fez. Woolly balls on the slippers are optional, but if you have them, go for it. A small sip of ouzo and you are ready.
Feet together facing front, hands outstretched to each side at shoulder level., do the Sirtaki (or the original Hasapiko if you prefer) into your kitchen.
A little bazouki music please … (Play while making)
