Australia and national flagAustralia Day is upon us as January 26th, 2010 rolls in. As an expatriate Aussie living in the US, I am often asked “What is Australia’s National Dish?” Well, there are many starters and that makes it difficult to put one dish at the top of the list. Internationally known items such as Pavlova, Meat pies, Vegemite on toast, Various types of beef, lamb, prawns, sausages and rissoles on the ‘barbie’, not to mention Lamingtons and ANZAC biscuits immediately spring to most people’s minds. One of Australia’s leading daily newspapers, The Sydney Morning Herald, ran an interesting article today on the difficulty of nominating a singular dish and asked it’s readers for their submissions. if you want a little insight into Australian culture and cuisine, I suggest you browse ‘Wanted: Australia’s National Dish
